PUNK

Every new technology has the potential to democratise creativity, lowering the barriers between having an idea and bringing it to life. What was once the preserve of specialists, institutions and those with access to expensive equipment suddenly becomes available to anyone with curiosity and the confidence to experiment. And with accessibility comes an explosion of DIY energy: people making things their own way, breaking conventions, ignoring the rules and challenging established gatekeepers. We saw it with punk, when cheap instruments, photocopiers and homemade recordings helped fuel an entire cultural movement. Today, digital tools and emerging technologies are creating similar opportunities, empowering a new generation of creators to bypass the traditional systems and build something entirely their own.
